Chairman-X is on a blog with a terrific review

Posted: 02/12/2008

Here is what Jeremy Epstein posted on his blog after he reviewed Chairman-X

Could an Israeli infiltrate the PLO and become its chairman?

What would happen if he actually did it

When my friend, Rami Loya, wrote in response to a recent FOJ mailing that he had just published Chairman-X and he'd like me to review it, I was a bit surprised.

Rami's previous book was Incentive compensation strategies for the new millenium.

This one, a Middle East thriller, was a complete 180...

and it is a page turner.

The story is only plausible because it is so ridiculously far-fetched, but Rami did a great job on many, many fronts.

First off, he touches on so many aspects of modern Middle East history, the Israeli war of Independene, the expulsion of Jews from Arab countries, the peace movement within Israel.

Next, he gives some "behind the scenes" explanations for geo-political events which you may have taken for granted.

The intricacies of the Israeli political scene, the obvious challenges that an Israeli would face in organizing terrorist attacks against his brethren, and a true, "NO WAY!!!" moment at the end kept me turning the pages.

The byline says "suspenseful to the last word" and I've got to say, it's pretty accurate.

You know you are reading a great book when, as you come close to the end and you feel the pages thinning, your heart is beating faster, as you know the climax is near.

If I had to be critical in any way, I'd say there were times when I felt the prose was a bit stiff and some of the dialogue a bit too cursory.

But, the strength of the plot and the energy kept me riveted.

Rami-I'm impressed and I hope that the book sells a lot.

And here's a bonus...I'll send (lend, that is, since I have a signed one) my copy of the book to the first person who posts a comment on this post.

Interfering with sex life? not me!

Posted: 01/10/2008

When I saw my good friend at the Gym, he said he was mad at me. I was speechless wondering what I have done to cause his anger.

“You have ruined my sex life, he complained. “Ever since my wife started reading your book she has been reading to the wee hours of the morning, ignoring me completely…”

Chairman-X, a great vacation read

Posted: 01/07/2008

Dear Rami,

I am a good friend of Raina.

Raina recently let me borrow her copy of Chairman-X to read during my family vacation.  Ordinarily, I would not expect to finish, let alone begin, a book on a vacation (I have three young children, 5 1/2, 4 & 13 months).  Your book altered my initial expectation - I finished it one day before we returned home.

Simply put: I could not put the book down.  The beginning captivated me and drew me in, wondering what the plot was.  The suspense that hung throughout the book left me wondering each time I had to put it down, "how will this end?"  The story unfolded beautifully and kept me turning the pages.  Any opportunity I could get to read Chairman-X, I took.

You even reached a 5 1/2 year-old reader!  My son was delighted to see his name in a book - through two characters.

I told Raina how much I enjoyed your book; she wants to read it but my husband, who never reads fiction, is going to read it first.  He is intrigued by the plot & how much I have enjoyed your book.

Thank you for writing such a fantastic book.  Keep writing!

Karen N.

My friend is mad at me??

Posted: 11/15/2007

This evening I ran into Robin Shapiro, a dear friend of ours, in the local Kosher Supermarket.

She received a copy of Chairman-X the previous evening.

"I am really mad at you ,Rami, Robin said to me"

I didn't know what to think...

"Ever since I started reading your book, she continued, I haven't been able to get much sleep. I just can't put it down!"

I was so relieved and elated.

Thank you, Robin.

Chairman-X is Published

Posted: 11/01/2007

Chairman-X is published and now available on the publisher website and major booksellers websites such as Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobel, Borders, and many more.

The Chairman-X idea was born in 1999. It took several more years to develop the idea and build an intriguing plot. The last two years were devoted to rewrites and edits, a long and laborious process.
